From the Principal...

Dear Churchill Families,

As we move further into the semester, I want to take a moment to discuss how we can work together to ensure every student finishes the year strong. We are at a vital juncture in the academic calendar. Now is the time to look closely at grades and have honest conversations with your students about their goals.

A Note to Senior Parents
For our seniors, the stakes are particularly high. This semester can truly make or break graduation plans or college admissions. We want every member of the Class of 2026 to cross that stage with pride. Please check your student’s grades regularly; if there is a struggle, we must intervene now. It is much easier to salvage a grade in the middle of the term than to try to perform a miracle in the final two weeks.

The #1 Factor for Success: Attendance
Our school theme this year is Be Present Stay Present. When we look at the data, the single biggest predictor of student struggle is missing class time. With our 90-minute block schedule, missing just one period is equivalent to missing two full days of instruction in a traditional setting.

I want to clarify how our notification system works so there are no surprises:
  • Unexcused Absences: You will receive an automated call/notification.
  • Tardies: You will not receive an automated call.

This means a student could be arriving 20 or 30 minutes late to class consistently without a notification reaching home. We encourage you to log into the parent portal regularly to view specific attendance marks for every period.

Accountability and Our Open Campus
With over 1,000 students and an open-campus policy, managing student movement is a significant task. While many students have open periods and handle that freedom well, it makes it difficult to track those who may be choosing to skip a class.

Our staff works tirelessly to hold students accountable and assign detentions where necessary, but the most effective accountability happens at home. When students know that both their school and their parents are looking at the same data, they are far more likely to stay on track.

We are here to support your students and help them navigate these challenges. Thank you for your continued partnership in their education.

Best regards,

Kevin Rodemack
Principal, Churchill High School

Partner with the CHS CTE Health Services Pathway!

The CTE Health Services Pathway at Churchill High School prepares students to explore and enter the medical profession. We are currently seeking parents, community members, and local healthcare professionals to support our future medical workers in three key ways:
  • Host a Senior Job Shadow (Our Primary Need): We are looking for clinicians willing to host a senior student for a one-day, observation-only (hands-off) job shadow before the end of May. Our seniors are highly prepared: they are HIPAA compliant, BLS certified, fluent in medical terminology, and trained in standard precautions. High-demand fields: Dental, Physical Therapy, Pediatrics, Nursing, Surgery (any), EMS, and Veterinary Services.
  • Serve as a Guest Clinical Validator: Join us in the classroom to observe and provide feedback on student skill demonstrations. Zero preparation is required—just show up and share your expertise! Upcoming unit needs (Feb/March): Wound Care, EMS, Physical Therapy, and Dental.
  • Donate Medical Supplies: We happily accept donations of surplus medical supplies to support our hands-on classroom simulations.
If you would like to volunteer as a clinical partner, donate supplies, or connect us with a clinician or facility that could help, please contact Keri Pilgrim at pilgrim_k@4j.lane.edu

Important Reminder: Student Bus Pass Usage & Guidelines

Dear Churchill Families,

We are incredibly fortunate to partner with Lane Transit District (LTD) to provide bus passes for our students. This program is a vital resource that helps our students get to school and participate in school-related activities.

To ensure this program remains funded and available for years to come, we must follow strict usage guidelines:
  • Students Only: Student bus passes are strictly for the use of the student to whom they were issued.
  • Non-Transferable: Passes may not be shared with friends, siblings, or adults.
  • Visual Identification: Please be aware that drivers can easily distinguish between Youth and Adult passes. Adults attempting to use student passes may be denied boarding.

Need an Adult Pass? If an adult in your household is in need of transit assistance, please reach out to LTD directly. They can provide a list of local organizations and agencies that offer adult bus passes or day-use tickets for those with limited income.

Thank you for helping us keep this program running by using your passes responsibly!

Relief Nursery Community Resource Guide

Our community is rich with resources and skilled, compassionate providers. Our hope is that this guide will be a support to families as they navigate systems and access services. At this time, Relief Nursery is not able to translate the entire Resource Guide into Spanish, though we recognize the need and hope to pursue that project in the future. The Resource Guide includes some Spanish language translation, particularly in the areas that specifically focus on serving Hispanic and Latino clients, English as a Second Language classes, and Immigration and Migrant services.
