From the Principal...

Dear Churchill Families,

As we head into Thanksgiving week, we want to remind you that there is no school for students next week. We hope this break gives everyone a chance to rest, recharge, and “fill their cups” so students return refreshed and ready for learning.

Although students are off, we will be holding conferences, and we are truly excited to meet with families. Conferences are a wonderful opportunity to connect, celebrate progress, and make plans for a strong second quarter.

We also hope that first-quarter grades did not come as a surprise. Please remember that these grades are not final, but rather a check-in point. If you have any concerns, we encourage you to reach out to your student or their teacher. In most cases, lower grades are connected to attendance challenges or missing assignments.

A simple backpack check can sometimes reveal forgotten work that never made it to the teacher! If you’re able, please support your student in getting organized—cleaning out backpacks, sorting papers into folders or binders, and reviewing what’s completed or still needs attention.

This organization extends beyond physical items as well. All students have a Google Drive, and helping them create folders and tidy their online workspace can make a big difference in keeping track of assignments.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We appreciate your partnership and hope you enjoy a restful Thanksgiving break.

Go, Lancers!

Write Club

Write Club is a monthly creative writing workshop for young writers.

Write Club gives youth the opportunity to find their writing community while having time set aside for their creative writing endeavors. It’s a place they feel comfortable exploring, writing, and sharing with others.

We offer Write Club at two times:
  • Teens (age 13+) meet on the 1st Saturday of every month (starting in January) from 11 am to 1 pm at the Wordcrafters studio (at 436 Charnelton St., Eugene).
  • Youth (age 9+) meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month (from September to June), from 11 am to 1 pm at the Wordcrafters studio. Teens are welcome to attend the youth workshop.

We offer pay-from-your-heart pricing for Write Club to meet varying financial needs, and have some scholarships available, as well. You can learn more at wordcrafters.org/write-club.

Relief Nursery Community Resource Guide

Our community is rich with resources and skilled, compassionate providers. Our hope is that this guide will be a support to families as they navigate systems and access services. At this time, Relief Nursery is not able to translate the entire Resource Guide into Spanish, though we recognize the need and hope to pursue that project in the future. The Resource Guide includes some Spanish language translation, particularly in the areas that specifically focus on serving Hispanic and Latino clients, English as a Second Language classes, and Immigration and Migrant services.
