Dear Churchill Families,
As we wrap up October and look ahead to November, I want to remind everyone that the upcoming month brings several unique schedules and special events. Please keep an eye on our weekly bulletins and school calendar so you don’t miss any important updates or changes to our regular routines.
With Halloween just around the corner, we’re excited to see students show their school spirit and creativity! Costumes are very much encouraged, but please remember:
- No masks or face coverings that obscure the face
- No fake weapons of any kind
- All costumes must follow the school dress code
We want everyone to enjoy the day safely and respectfully.
A big shoutout to our Boys Soccer Team for making the playoffs—what an incredible accomplishment! And best of luck to our Girls Volleyball Team as they compete for the league championship against Crater away this Tuesday. We’re proud of your hard work and dedication!
Thank you all for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Wishing everyone a fun and safe end to October!
Go, Lancers!

When we talk about diploma options, we are frequently asked if community service is required for graduation. It depends on the type of diploma you are pursuing. We have different types of diploma pathways and options at Churchill:
International High School (IHS): Students earn a Churchill Standard Diploma. IHS Students who complete IHS requirements earn an IHS Honorary Diploma. IHS honorary recognition requires Creativity, Action, and Service hours (CAS Hours).
IHS also has a pathway to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma (all students can pursue this).
Churchill: Standard Diploma, Modified Diploma, Extended Diploma, Alternative Certificate. These completion options do not require community service.
At Churchill, there is also Honors Diploma Recognition. This recognition requires a 3.5 cumulative GPA, 25.00 credits, and community service hours. You do not have to take specific honors classes to receive this diploma.
How do you find community service?
Get involved. Consider joining a club at Churchill. Many have volunteer or service opportunities. Watch the announcements for volunteering needs at the school. Talk to your School Counselor or College & Career Coordinator, Mary Beth Hepp-Elam, about volunteer opportunities. Check organizations in the community. Many post volunteer opportunities on their websites.
Regardless of which diploma you are pursuing, community service is a fantastic way to engage with the community, show potential employers/colleges/scholarship committees that you’re involved, and give back.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to introduce you to a new program our school has acquired to help your student prepare for academic, career, and future success.
Say hello to Xello!
(Pronounced zellow, like yellow but with a Z)
Xello is an engaging online program that helps students build the skills, knowledge, and plans to be future-ready. The program uses an investigative, discovery-based learning process. Students better understand themselves, their future career options, and the 21st century skills they’ll need to succeed.
With Xello, your student will:
- Build self-knowledge — Define their interests, skills, preferences, and aspirations so they can explore the opportunities right for them.
- Explore options — Learn about career possibilities and educational pathways by exploring rich, engaging content and lessons.
- Create a plan — Your student can create dynamic, actionable plans that outline the steps needed to achieve school, career, and life goals.
- Learn & reassess — Interactive lessons help your student develop age-appropriate skills and knowledge for success in school and beyond.
Parent involvement
You’re encouraged to explore Xello with your student by logging in together. Your student can log in to their account via desktop or mobile device to share what they’ve learned about themselves, the world of work, and their future options.
Safe and secure environment
We take data protection and privacy very seriously. So does Xello. The program complies with legal requirements for safety and security outlined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). That means advertising is not displayed within Xello, nor is data used for commercial purposes. Xello is also a signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge, requiring them to uphold strict standards for safeguarding student privacy regarding the collection, maintenance, and use of student personal information.
You can learn more about Xello and the student experience by visiting www.xello.world
