Shining Armor: A Spotlight on Lancer PRIDE

They selected to use Emma Ackerman's design. Rock on Emma!

Growing a Legacy: NASU's Native Plant Garden

What started as an idea to create a lasting legacy has blossomed into a vibrant project for the Native American Student Union (NASU) affinity group. Students, inspired by a similar garden at South Eugene High, are cultivating a native plant garden on campus. This initiative provides a hands-on learning opportunity about Oregon's native flora while embodying the NASU students' core value of caring for the Earth.
With soil partially donated by Lane Forest Products and crucial assistance from the 4J landscape crew, the garden is taking root. A key decision, guided by student Gabriel Burke, was to use cardboard instead of landscape fabric for weed control—a more eco-friendly approach. Despite challenges like coordinating schedules for weekend work, the goal is to establish several plants this year, including vine leaf maple, camas, and Oregon grape, with plans for continued growth and a naturally wild aesthetic in the years to come.
A large green landscaping truck is positioned to deposit soil into a garden bed.
Four individuals are actively engaged in planting in a mulched garden bed in front of a building.
A group of three students are working on a garden bed against a building, with one kneeling to place landscape fabric and another standing with a tool.
A male student in a white shirt operates a rototiller in a garden bed covered with dark mulch, while another student stands nearby with a shovel.
A group of four people are working on a garden bed outside a building, with two actively shoveling dark mulch and another standing with a tool near a wheelbarrow.
