Happy Mothers' Day to all the Churchill Moms. I hope your student stopped by the STEM building and picked up a couple items for you at the plant sale. If not maybe they can bring you to SpongeBob the Musical. Tonight is opening night but it runs all weekend and next so make plans to attend. It looked spectacular, just in the preview we got this week during Advisory.
Musicals are always exciting because they usually have a large cast, there are all the students in orchestra participating and then all of the sound and set folks behind the scenes making it happen. Lots of talented, talented students on display, so much fun!
Teacher Appreciation Week was a success. Thank you to those of you that brought something. I would like to send out a special thank you to Jennifer Hartley who set everything up, managed the buffet and then cleaned up. She was an absolute rock star!
Congrats to our Rachel Carson program. Thirty-six students participated in the Oregon Envirothon and the Oregon Garden, taking home 2nd place out of 86 teams!
Go, Lancers!

Student Advisor Opportunities: Rulemaking Relevent to Oregon K-12 Education
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Oregon State Board of Education (SBE) are looking for rising high school juniors and seniors to participate in Oregon’s K-12 administrative rulemaking processes as either a Student Member of ODE’s Ongoing Rules Community Advisory (ORCA) or a Student Advisor to the State Board of Education (SBE). Interested students may apply for these student opportunities here: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/ac253e9a6c3d4ddc82265ff55453240b. These positions begin in August 2025 and end in July 2026. To qualify, students must be a current high school sophomore or junior (junior or senior during the 2025-26 school year). If you will be a junior or senior in the 2025-26 school year and are interested in weighing in on rules that may impact the behind-the-scenes and day-to-day operations of Oregon’s school systems, this opportunity is curated for students like you. Students who don’t have direct experience with policy deliberations are still encouraged to apply. We work with students in August and throughout the school year to teach them more about the rulemaking process.
