|
This week at Churchill has been filled with fun activities, and we hope everyone enjoyed the excitement of homecoming week. We look forward to cheering for the Lancers in tonight's Homecoming Game and dancing the night away at tomorrow's Homecoming Dance. Next week promises to be just as enjoyable, with events planned for Halloween, the Fall Festival, and Día de los Muertos.
Halloween costumes are welcome and encouraged! Please follow these costume guidelines:
1. Ensure your costume is appropriate for school.
2. Don’t wear masks or coverings that hide your whole face; we need to see who you are.
3. Please refrain from costumes that feature excessive gore.
4. Do not bring any type of weapon to school, including fake, prop, or toy weapons.
Midterm grading is approaching quickly, with grades due on November 8. Students, now is the time to submit any missing assignments and check in with your teachers if you’re looking for ways to improve your grades.
Go, Lancers!

Happy Fall! The Counseling Department is here to support CHS students. We work with students about a variety of topics including: social/emotional, academics (for example: grades, class concerns, schedules, 504 case management), career exploration, post-secondary planning (for example: financial aid, military, scholarships, college, SAT/ACT testing), and many other topics. We also provide resources and counseling referrals and work with community partners.
In addition, we have a fantastic College and Career Center near our counseling offices that is run by Mary Beth Hepp-Elam. You will see important announcements and workshops throughout the year from Mary Beth.

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, November 14, 2024
|
At age six, Ruby Bridges became the first African American to integrate an elementary school in the South and she has been a lifelong civil rights leader. This event is the perfect opportunity to teach children about the civil rights movement and to make connections to today’s collective efforts for change.
Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day encourages a culture of active transportation and gives our students the chance to celebrate Ruby’s courage by walking, biking, or rolling to school.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program
This is an opportunity for students in 9th through 12 grades (check birth year below) to spend time in Germany! The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) program – CIEE is looking for motivated, curious leaders who want to experience a different culture and learn a language through a full immersion experience on a fully-funded US Department of State Scholarship. The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) offers 210 young Americans annually the opportunity to live with a host family and attend high school in Germany for an academic year. CIEE administers CBYX on behalf of the U.S. Department of State.
· CBYX is a fully-funded scholarship sponsored by the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and jointly funded by the German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress.
· Academic merit, as well as motivation, curiosity, and flexibility are key components to a competitive application.
· Previous German language experience is not required. Participants become fluent in German.
· Alumni can connect with a global network of other State Department program alumni upon completion of the program.
· This is also an excellent gap year program for students applying as current high school seniors!
Students who are U.S. Citizens born between February 1, 2007 and August 1, 2010, with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to apply. Please see this “ Quick Facts” sheet for additional information about the CBYX program. The online application can be found at www.usagermanyscholarship.org.

Become a Churchill Community Responder
|
A Churchill Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15th Night Coordinator for needs specific to CHS students that have not been met by internal school resources. Types of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding, small gift cards, etc.
A Churchill Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the CHS Coordinator to secure and deliver the item. If you are unable to help with that alert you simply ignore the alert.

4J Student Cards for Eugene Public Library
|
All Eugene School District 4J students receive their own Eugene Public Library (EPL) card as part of a partnership with Eugene Public Library! Library cards were delivered to all 4J students last year and will be automatically renewed yearly until they graduate or leave the district.
New library cards are being offered to all new students and kindergarteners this year. If your student does not receive a card once your home school has delivered library cards, please contact or visit Eugene Public Library.
Student cards:
- Provide immediate access to Eugene Public Library's online resources and the ability to borrow five physical items at a time.
- Will be distributed by each school's library or administration office.
- Are free of charge, including for students who live outside the City of Eugene.
- Can be upgraded to a standard library card with higher borrowing limits at no charge.
- Are automatically issued to all K-12 students enrolled at 4J neighborhood and alternative schools unless they or their parents choose not to participate. Charter schools are not included.
- Are automatically renewed each school year for continuing 4J students. New cards will be issued to students joining the district (kindergarteners and new students).
The initial account password is the student’s 4J ID number. We encourage patrons to change their password upon first logging into their account. Teachers, 4J librarians, and school secretaries can assist with ID numbers as needed.
4J students who already have a standard Eugene Public Library card may choose to keep and use both cards or cancel one of their cards.
We appreciate your patience as cards are distributed. Should you have questions about getting a Student Card, please contact your school's administration office.
