Churchill Families,
Happy Memorial Day weekend. I hope you all enjoy your three-day week, are able to rest, relax, and come back next week ready for the last three weeks of school. I also want to say thank you to all who have served as we remember and honor them this weekend.
Seniors and senior families - I want to remind you to keep checking our website (Graduation tab) and our latest “Graduation at a G’Lance” for all things graduation. We are two weeks away, and there is still lots to do for some of our seniors. Please reach out to your student’s counselor or our front office if you have any questions. Also, rumor has it that Tuesday, May 28th might be senior skip day. Just a reminder that this is not a school-sponsored event and students who participate will be marked as an unexcused absence.
Enjoy your weekend.
Go, Lancers!

Thank you, Voters!

🙌THANK YOU, VOTERS! Voters in Eugene School District 4J have overwhelmingly passed Measure 20-357, renewing the local option levy that helps fund the day-to-day operations of our schools. This support makes a huge difference for every one of our 4J students and schools.
The levy's renewal ensures another 5 years of local funding to help maintain school days, school programs, staffing levels and class sizes to the extent possible.
This is great news for students, schools, and our community. Thanks to voters and other community members for your ongoing support of our public schools!
May Students of the Month
Congratulations Sahalie Hoberg, Johnnie Kenyon, Kimberly Garcia Lopez, Evelee Henderson, Memphis Albert, Yasmin Valdez, Samarra Tucker, and Riley Rogers!Lockdown Drill
On Tuesday, May 21th, Churchill held a “Lockdown” DRILL. It was only a drill. District policy requires all schools to practice events to help ensure the safety of students and staff. The safety and security of your child is our top priority.
What is a “Lockdown”? *
* “Lockdown” is called when a threat or hazard is inside the school building. The “Lockdown” Action demands locking interior doors, moving occupants out of the line of sight of corridor windows, turning off lights to make the room seem unoccupied, and having occupants maintain silence. Students who cannot get behind a locked door are trained to self-evacuate. If your child contacts you to inform you they have safely self-evacuated, please let the school know as well.
Go to “iloveuguys.org” to learn more.

Student passes can be used at any time—after school, on weekends, and during school breaks, as well as to get to and from school each day.
To get a free LTD student transit pass, available as a tap card or Umo smartphone app, students can request their pass at the front office for elementary students. Passes are valid from September 1 of the current school year to September 30 of the following year and can be renewed by the school each year for ongoing free service.
¡Obtenga el pase de tránsito LTD GRATUITO antes de que finalice el año escolar!

Home Safety Opportunity: Restricting Lethal Means
Pick up a FREE lockbox for your handgun, rifle, and/or medication at the Churchill front office, or talk to your student's counselor.
Suicide is a leading cause of death among young people in Oregon, and has recently increased in Lane County. The district is working with public health and other partners to provide families with information and resources for suicide prevention.
There are steps you can take to help keep your family members safe if they experience an emotional crisis or think about suicide. One important measure is to reduce easy access to things that could be dangerous to them: “lethal means.” Lethal means include firearms, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, sharp objects, and belts, cords, and cables.
Reducing access to lethal means saves lives. Most people who live through a suicide attempt do not later die by suicide. Suicide attempts using firearms are very likely to be fatal.
Firearms, medications, and other lethal means can be restricted by removing them or locking them in secure storage. It is essential that youth cannot know the combination or be able to get the key. Lockboxes are being offered to 4J families at no charge.

Ways to Support Churchill Students
Become a Churchill Community Responder
A Churchill Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15 th Night Coordinator for needs specific to CHS students that internal school resources have not met. Types of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding, small gift cards, etc.
A Churchill Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the CHS Coordinator to secure and deliver the item. If you are unable to help with that alert you simply ignore the alert.

Pertussis FAQ from Lane County Health
Lane County health officials say a recent rise in cases of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, indicate the respiratory tract infection is spreading in our community. We are asking our families to be vigilant to prevent further spread of the infection in our school and larger community. Families are encouraged to stay up-to-date with their pertussis vaccinations and keep children home from school if they show symptoms of pertussis.
An FAQ with more information is available on the 4J website both in English and in Spanish. If you have further questions, please call your medical provider or Lane County Public Health, 541-682-4041.
