4J Graduation Celebrations: Honoring the Class of 2021

4J high schools will hold both virtual and in-person graduation ceremonies

Cue up “Pomp and Circumstance”—on repeat. Due to COVID restrictions, 4J high schools can’t hold traditional indoor, in-person commencement ceremonies for all graduating seniors at the same time. Instead, high schools will hold multiple ceremonies online and outdoors.

Every high school will hold a virtual graduation ceremony honoring all graduating seniors at the school. The virtual graduation ceremonies will be live-streamed on Thursday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. The IHS graduation ceremony will be live-streamed after the comprehensive high schools. There is no limit on spectators, and families and friends can watch from any location.

To honor our students’ and families’ wishes to have a safe and in-person graduation during the pandemic, high schools also will hold in-person commencement events for students who choose to participate.

Larger high schools will hold multiple events to comply with limits on the number of participants. The four comprehensive high schools (Churchill, North Eugene, Sheldon, and South Eugene) will each hold two ceremonies on the same night, each with half of the graduating senior class.

The ceremonies will be held on the following dates:

  • Eugene International High School – Friday, June 11, 7:00 – Sheldon stadium
  • North Eugene High School – Saturday, June 12, 2:00 & 4:00 – Swede Johnson Stadium
  • South Eugene High School – Monday, June 14, 5:30 & 7:30 – South Eugene stadium
  • ECCO – Tuesday, June 15, 7:00 – Arts & Technology Academy turf field
  • Sheldon High School – Wednesday, June 16, 5:30 & 7:30 – Sheldon stadium
  • Churchill High School – Thursday, June 17, 5:30 & 7:30 – Churchill stadium

The number of spectators will be determined by the county’s risk level at the time of the event:

  • Extreme Risk: Members of the graduating class only (no on-site spectators)
  • High or Moderate Risk: Each graduate will receive two tickets for guests
  • All Risk Levels: Graduation ceremonies will be live-streamed for an unlimited number of viewers

All of the events will be outside, rain or shine. All participants and spectators must wear face coverings consistently and correctly and must maintain 6 feet of physical distance from people not in their immediate household. Students and families are encouraged but not required to be vaccinated.

High schools will communicate to seniors and families about graduation event plans and how students will be scheduled to participate. The link to the live broadcast will be posted on school websites and shared with families before the event.

Congratulations to the Class of 2021!
