Clubs

Today: NASU meets in F39 during lunch, Fun & Games Club meets at lunch in H3; Climate Action Club meets at lunch in STEM 100; LSU meets in J11 during lunch; Theatre Tech meets at 3:45 in the auditorium; Churchill Choral Collective meets at 3:35 in D13; Tinker Club meets after school in Stem 105.

AAPI Heritage Month

Kamala Harris, First Asian American Vice President of the United States

The daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, Kamala Harris is the current vice president of the United States. In addition to being the first woman to hold this office and the highest-ranking female government official in U.S. history, she is also the first Asian American or African American to fill the role. Before her inauguration, she served as a U.S. Senator from California since 2017 and the state’s attorney general from 2011 to 2017.

W.I.S.E. SYMPOSIUM

The 11th annual W.I.S.E. SYMPOSIUM is on Wednesday, May 24th, at Churchill from 4:30 to 8:30. Register at the planters during lunch today. The Symposium is free and open to all high school students. There will be pizza and prizes, too. Enjoy workshops and presentations around the theme of Biology: life through different lenses.

Lane Community College Admissions Workshop

The final workshop of the year is on Wednesday, May 31st. Drop in any time between 2:30 and 4 pm in room F39. Seniors who plan to attend Lane Community College this summer or fall, this workshop is for you! Get your application in and apply for or finish your Oregon Promise grant application before the June first deadline.

Lost and Found Items

Students – Please check the lost and found table set up in the Student Lounge to claim any items you may have lost this Trimester. All items left at the end of the week will be donated.

Volunteer Opportunity

Teen volunteers are needed for Math Night at McCornack Elementary School tomorrow night from 5:45-8:00. Help McCornack students in math games. Pizza and game directions will be provided. Call parent organizer, Storm Kennedy at 541-520-1889.

CHS School Store

Reminder: the Student Store is giving away a mystery bag through the end of May – get a free raffle ticket with any purchase!!

Graduation Tickets

Seniors: Get your graduation tickets today at lunch in the courtyard. You need to be cleared to graduate on the Graduation Checklist. You’ll need to know: How many total tickets you will need, whether any of your guests will need wheelchair seating, and whether any of your guests will need an interpreter.

Girls Basketball

Anyone interested in playing girls’ summer basketball, there are workouts next week on Tuesday and Thursday in the gym from 4-5:15, and Monday and Wednesday at Kennedy from 5-6.  Summer season starts Tuesday, May 30th with practice from 4-6.  See Coach Stewart in room H1 if interested or if you have questions.

Work Study

Work Study positions are now open for sophomores and juniors. Work at a Churchill area school next school year, get paid, and get class credit. Students must be at least 16 years old, with a GPA minimum of 2.0, and have very good attendance. Positions are open at Adams, ATA, César Chávez, Churchill, McCornack, and Twin Oaks schools. Interested students can drop off their resumes to Mary Beth in the School-to-Career Office in the STEM building. Applications are due by Wednesday, May 31st.

CHS Spring Musical

The CHS Spring Musical, Seussical, continues with its final showings! Inspired by the works of Dr. Seuss, this musical follows Horton the Elephant, JoJo the Who, and Gertrude McFuzz through their adventures in the Jungle of Nool, Whoville, and beyond. Showings are tomorrow, 19, 20 at 7 PM and May 21 at 2 PM in the CHS Auditorium. Tickets are $7 for students and $15 for general admission. You can buy tickets from CHS Thespians during lunch, or simply at the door!
