Happy three day weekend! I hope you all can take time to relax, remember what the weekend is all about, and rejuvenate so we can all push through the last three weeks of school. (Two weeks of you are a Senior!!)
These next few weeks will fly by and summer will be here before you know it. Please make sure to check-in with your students, and their teachers, about grades, assignments, projects, and class room attendance. A little “spring-fever” seems to be happening since the sun has come out, so I’d encourage you to see where your student is at, how their classes are going and maybe even redirect them if needed. We are all a bit tired, but also need to stick with it until the end. We can do it!!
Seniors are coming up on the end of their high school career. It is a joyous time as well as an emotional time as one chapter in life is coming to an end and another one is starting. If you are a senior, or a family of a senior, make sure to check out the G’Lancer for all your senior needs, information and questions. There you will find all the information and resources you need to wrap up the final weeks of your high school career.

School and Student Information
Incoming 9th grade Open House – Tuesday, May 30th @ 6 pm
We are so excited to have an Incoming 9th grade Open House this year! On Tuesday, May 30th at 6pm we will be in the cafeteria with a small dinner (vegetarian options available) to serve to any incoming 9th grader and their family. When you get here you will have a chance to eat, meet some staff members, hear a short presentation, and take a tour led by a leadership student if you would like. We look forward to having you and your family on campus!
Student Climate and Culture Survey
Students will need to take the Districts Climate survey again before the end of the year. The information gathered from the survey will be shared with the district and each school so we can better understand how our students feel while they are in school, how we can better support them, and what is needed to improve each school from the student’s perspective.

- Answers are completely confidential and we will not know how each student responded.
- The survey is the same one we used previously; the average student took about 12 minutes to complete the survey

STI/HIV Advisory Lesson Wednesday, May 31st
Dear 4J families –
Upcoming Advisory classes will be reviewing HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections in all 4J high schools. Each year, ODE requires that we review this content annually with all students, grades 9-12 (OAR 581-022-2050). Health classes are not required for every grade level, therefore we are using advisory to ensure we meet this state mandate.
The topics will include:
- Differences between viral and bacterial infections
- Consent
- What is a STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection)
- Types of STIs
- Difference between HIV and AIDS
- How STIs are transmitted
- Prevention Strategies
- National and Oregon data on STIs
- Community Resources for testing
The curriculum is available for you to review upon request at the school site. The materials used for these lessons are not OWL. They have been sourced from local health community partners. If you would like to opt your student out of this advisory lesson and participate in an alternative activity or study hall, the District opt-out form is attached. Please return the opt-out to the main office by 4 pm on Tuesday, May 30th.

Taking Care of School Laptops
How to Request Tech Help
Students and families: You can request help for your student computer online.
Go to technologysupport.4j.lane.edu and look for the red button in the top right corner. (You can also find this link on the CHS website under the Students menu, then Technology.) The Technology Support page has lots of helpful information about commonly-asked questions, or you can fill out a tech support ticket and a Technology Support Specialist will respond.
Students do not need to leave the classroom to request tech help. Students can submit a tech support ticket while on campus and our Technology Support Specialist can respond by email.
For the best response, please give complete information about the problem you are experiencing.
Never leave your student laptop unattended.
Reminder: NEVER leave your student laptop unattended. Do not leave it in a classroom or hallway. Take it with you or put it in your locker when you are not using it. Never leave a computer in your vehicle. Do not leave your backpack in a vehicle where it can be seen by potential thieves. From a thief’s perspective, any backpack might have a valuable laptop computer inside.
School-to-Career News
Lane Community College Drop-in Workshop for LCC-bound Seniors
Seniors and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend the Lane Community College Drop-in Workshop for LCC-bound seniors at Churchill on Wednesday, May 31st, from 2:20 – 4 pm, in room F39. Lane’s Admission Recruiter Rosa Maria Banuelos-Uribe will be on hand to help seniors get set up for success and complete a Lane application, find their course placement for writing and math, check on the Oregon Promise grant, and other financial aid, complete their online orientation, and set an appointment for academic advising. Fire Camp
Fire Camp is for any female-identifying youth that is between 15 and 19 years old and is June 26–30, 2023. All applications must be submitted by May 19th, 2023.
This unique camp instills self-confidence, teamwork, and leadership by utilizing fire service activities as a catalyst for this growth. Our curriculum is dynamic and physically challenging, but exceptionally rewarding for participants. During the camp, you will be issued firefighting gear and participate in activities related to the fire service, emergency medical services, and other fields.
Applications are due no later than May 19, 2023.

The Youth Discovery Project is a weekly afterschool program on Tuesdays, 4–6 pm, for ages 13–17. Participants will design, build, craft, cultivate, laugh, lead, and learn while diving into inspiring projects that include: Bamboo Shelter Building, Earthen Cob Wall Construction; Bow and Arrow Making, Living Willow Structures, Farm Animal Intelligence Experiments, Mushroom Log Propagation, Biochar Creation, Woven Garden Structures, Bowl and Mask Making, Giant Tree Hang-Out Designing, and Much More.
