Churchill High School AVID Program – Applications Open for Incoming 9th Graders

Posted Date: 06/23/26 (04:15 PM)

Dear Churchill High School Families,

We are excited to share that space has become available in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program for the 2026–2027 school year. We invite incoming 9th-grade students who may be a good fit to apply.

AVID is a nationally recognized college and career readiness program designed to help students develop the skills, habits, and confidence needed to succeed in rigorous coursework and prepare for life after high school.

AVID's primary mission is to close opportunity gaps by supporting students who have the potential to succeed in college and careers, with a particular focus on students who would be the first in their family to attend college and students who are historically underrepresented in higher education.

AVID students learn valuable skills such as:

  • Organization and time management
  • Note-taking and study strategies
  • Goal setting and self-advocacy
  • Collaboration and critical thinking
  • College and career exploration

AVID is designed for students who have the desire and determination to attend college or pursue post-secondary opportunities and who would benefit from additional academic support and encouragement.

Students who may be a strong fit for AVID often:
  • Would be the first in their family to attend college
  • Identify with groups that have been historically underrepresented on college campuses
  • Earn grades in the academic middle (typically B's and C's)
  • Demonstrate good attendance and positive behavior
  • Are motivated to challenge themselves academically
  • Have a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Would benefit from additional support with organization, study skills, and navigating the path to college and careers

If you believe your child would be a good fit for AVID, please encourage them to complete the AVID application as soon as possible to be considered for the upcoming school year.
