Attendance Update
Churchill Families,

Thank you for supporting us in ensuring your student is attending classes on time. We want to make sure our communication with you is timely and informative when excessive unexcused tardies occur. We at Churchill High School want to ensure the safety of your child by being able to account for them.

Per our attendance policy, lunch detentions can be received when:

  • A teacher identifies a student who has been tardy three times in their class
  • When our student support team reviews overall weekly data of student attendance and three or more tardies have occurred across all classes

Students with excessive unexcused tardies may receive consequences from lunch detention to in-school suspension, depending on the severity of unexcused tardies.

We appreciate your support. Let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

CHS Student Support Team

Atentamente,

Equipo de apoyo estudiantil de CHS

Become a Churchill Community Responder
A Churchill Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15th Night Coordinator for needs specific to CHS students that have not been met by internal school resources. Types of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding, small gift cards, etc.

A Churchill Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the CHS Coordinator to secure and deliver the item. If you are unable to help with that alert you simply ignore the alert.

Testing Day is October 9
Dear Parents/Guardians of Seniors,
We are reaching out to remind you that SAT Testing Day for seniors who have registered is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, 2024. This is an important milestone for students as they take steps toward their college and career goals.
To help your student be prepared for testing, here are a few reminders:
  1. Get a good night's rest: Encourage your child to rest well the night before the test.
  2. Eat a healthy breakfast: A nutritious breakfast will help your student stay focused throughout the exam.
  3. Arrive early: Testing begins at 8:30 AM, and we recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early to ensure a smooth check-in process.
  4. Bring necessary items: Students should bring the following on test day:
  • An approved photo ID
  • Their school-issued laptop (fully charged)
  • Snacks and water (for breaks)
Please remind your student to leave electronic devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, at home or turned off during the test.
For seniors who have not registered for the SAT, they should still report to school for a condensed day of all 8 classes. This day will provide an opportunity to connect with teachers and catch up on any outstanding classwork. Lunch will be available, and dismissal will be at 12:30 PM.
If you have any questions about SAT Testing Day or the schedule for non-testing students, feel free to contact us. We appreciate your support as our seniors take important steps in their academic journey!

IMPORTANT: All Juniors and Seniors must update the Bluebook App on their student laptops. Instructions are in the attached quicksheets at the bottom of this newsletter.
Dear Churchill High School Juniors and Parents,
We are reaching out to remind you about the upcoming PSAT (Preliminary SAT) for juniors on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Taking the PSAT is an important step in preparing for college admissions and can provide valuable insight into your student’s readiness for the SAT.
Here are a few key reasons why the PSAT is important:
  • National Merit Scholarship Qualification: Juniors who score in the top percentiles may qualify for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program, which can open doors to additional scholarship opportunities and academic recognition.
  • SAT Practice: The PSAT is great practice for the SAT. It helps identify areas of strength and where more focus is needed in preparation for college entrance exams.
  • College & Career Resources: By taking the PSAT, your student can receive access to a variety of tools and resources for college and career planning through College Board.
If your student will not be taking the PSAT, they will follow a regular school day with a condensed 8-period schedule. This will give them the opportunity to check in with teachers, catch up on schoolwork, and get any additional help they may need. Lunch will be provided, and dismissal will be at 12:30 PM.
To help us plan for the day, please complete this short survey to let us know if your student will be participating in the PSAT on October 9, 2024:
Please respond to this survey by the end of the day on Tuesday, October 1st.

If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to reach out to our office.

IMPORTANT: All Juniors and Seniors must update the Bluebook App on their student laptops. Instructions are in the attached quicksheets at the bottom of this newsletter.
Dear Parents of Freshmen and Sophomores,
We wanted to remind you of a few important details regarding October 9th. It will be a half-day of school with a condensed schedule of all 8 periods, providing students with an opportunity to connect with their teachers and catch up on schoolwork.
For some of our juniors and seniors, it will be a testing day. Lunch will be served, and dismissal will take place at 12:30 PM. However, please note that 4J buses will not arrive until 2:30 PM. We encourage you to make any necessary transportation arrangements for your student if needed.
We look forward to seeing your student on October 9th!
