Churchill Families,
Another great week as a Lancer is in the books!  We had a great week in sports, our drama students started their rehearsals for our Fall plan “Rumors”, some of our student lead clubs started up, and we ended the week with an amazing assembly honoring the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.  It really is great being a Lancer, and the start of the school year is off to a great start!

As we continue into the year, please help us to remind your students that they need to make sure their cell phones are away either in their backpack, or in the designated spot in each teacher’s room.  “No Cell, Bell to Bell” is the motto this year so we can all focus on learning.  If you do need to reach your student during school time, you can always call our front office, (541) 790-5100, and we can get a message to them for you.  Or students can use their phones before school, after school, and during lunch to respond to your texts or calls as well.  Just not during class time.

Finally, we would also like your help in reminding students to be on time to classes.  Students have either 15 minutes between classes in the morning, or 5 minutes in the afternoon to get from one class to another.  If students are late 3 times or more, lunch detentions and calls home may occur.  (please see the policy below.)  Being on time to class is important, so they can learn, engage with their teachers and peers, pass classes, earn credits, and stay on track to graduate.  If you have any questions regarding your student’s attendance, please connect with their teachers, or our attendance line, (541 )790-5102.

Have a great weekend.

Go, Lancers!

SECURE
“Get Inside. Lock outside doors. Business as usual”
(Examples: Unsafe activity in the neighborhood, unknown person on campus)

Students:
  • Return to inside of building indoors
  • Do business as usual

Adults and staff:
  • Bring everyone
  • Lock the outside doors
  • Increase situational awareness
  • Account for students and adults
  • Do business as usual

This week Churchill practiced the “Secure” action as part of our required drill schedule.
During the “Secure” action, all perimeter doors are locked, and no one can leave or
enter the building. During this drill, all instruction and daily business continued.

During a real event, when appropriate, families will receive information from the school
or district. If there is a need for the district to collect information, there will be detailed
information that will guide the process. Churchill will continue to practice and improve
our drill protocols to increase the safety of our students and staff.

Canvas for Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians,

We’re excited to announce that you’re a few steps away from activating your Canvas Observer account for your middle or high school student. Canvas Observer enhances engagement with your student’s academic journey, allowing you to read announcements and view grades and assignment due dates, among other features.

All new and returning users must activate their account before you can start using Canvas Observer. To activate your account, complete the following steps:

  1. Visit 4J’s Canvas for Families webpage and click on “Forgot Password?”
  2. Enter the email you provided your child’s school and then click the “Request Password” box
  3. Enter a password after clicking the reset link you receive in your email
  4. Return to the Canvas for Families webpage to log in with your username and new password

Canvas Observer will not allow you to activate more than one account if parents/guardians have the same email address on file for their student. In this case, contact your school and provide a unique email address for each parent or guardian associated with your student.

Supporting instructions are found on the login page as well as a flyer here

Please contact your school if you have any questions or run into any problems.

Thank you for your assistance,
