March is Women’s “Her-story” Month
Today we celebrate Kathrine Johnson. Ms. Johnson was one of the first African-American female mathematicians at NASA, where she calculated orbital mechanics. Despite being put down by her colleagues she was able to safely land mission Freedom 7, America’s first human spaceflight in May 1961. In 2015, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor.
This Women in STEM series is brought to you by the WISE club – Women in Science & Engineering.
