Graduation at a G’Lance 5/31

Churchill Graduating Students and Families,

Seniors have only three school days left. Before you go, there are a few things you need to know. Please carefully read these announcements to make sure you are ready to go.

Graduation is Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hult Center.

Walking Partner Sign Up is Closed

We will be working on the seating chart this week. Seating will be assigned by random selection with walking partners seated together. The seating chart will be posted by Jill’s office when it is complete.

Diploma Names

A list of student names as they will appear on their diploma will be posted outside Jill’s office this week. Please review your name and make corrections if needed.

Technology Account Notice

Once you graduate, your 4J email, 4J Google drive, and 4J Files1 are no longer accessible. Copy any data you wish to keep to an external drive or to your personal Google drive before you go.

For instructions on using Google Takeout to download your 4J Google data, visit 4j.lane.edu/technology/ns/googletakeout.

If you are using your 4J email for your Naviance account, you must change it to a personal email to avoid losing access to Naviance.

Tickets

Extra tickets are sold out. No more lottery requests will be accepted.

Many of our students have family members flying in from out of town or coming home from the military to attend graduation. These students have worked hard to earn their place in the graduation ceremony. Please return tickets that you know you will not use to the office so we can distribute them to students who will use them.

Any unclaimed tickets will be made available at graduation rehearsal on the morning of June 12. First priority will be given to students who have not received any tickets, then to students who received only their six reserved tickets, and finally to students who have already picked up more than their six reserved tickets.

If you requested tickets through the lottery, please pick them up during lunch in Jill’s office. Lottery tickets were evenly distributed among the students who requested them. Students who requested more than four extra tickets will receive 4 or 5 extra tickets. No student will receive more than 5 extra tickets.

You can still pick up your six reserved tickets. Please review the checklist to make sure you are cleared to graduate. Here’s what we need to know when you come to pick up your tickets:

  • Your name and student number
  • You are cleared on the checklist
  • The total number of tickets you will need (maximum of 6)
  • The total number (if any) of your guests who will be in a wheelchair or using a walker
  • The total number (if any) of your guests who will need an interpreter and the language they need

Rules for Cap Decorations, Regalia, and How to Wear Your Cap and Gown

Churchill allows graduates to express themselves by decorating their caps for graduation. All cap decorations must be school-appropriate and 2-dimensional. Nothing should stick up on top or hang down below the mortarboard. The mortarboard should be parallel to the ground.

Graduation gowns must be worn correctly, with fronts fully zipped over school-appropriate clothing. Administrators may check under gowns if they suspect inappropriate dress or items that do not belong on the graduation stage, such as noisemakers, beach balls, or other props.

Honor cords, stoles, medals, and pins are provided through the school or district and must be approved by the school administration. Culturally-significant regalia is permitted. Culturally-significant regalia includes ceremonial accessories or attire that are significant to the graduate’s culture as a whole and appropriate to that culture’s traditional rites of passage. This does not include items that are of personal significance to the graduate. School-appropriate jewelry and items of personal significance may be worn in a way that does not detract from the uniform appearance of the cap and gown.

Please review the Graduation Information Presentation for more details and examples of appropriate and inappropriate dress and cap decorations.

Donating or Returning your Gown

Gowns borrowed from Churchill are due back to the school before you may pick up your diploma. The cap and tassel are yours to keep.

Please consider donating your gown for future graduations. Gown donations are accepted in the front office at any time.

The Checklist

2019 Graduation Checklist 0531(updated 5/31/2019)

Students cannot pick up graduation tickets or participate in the graduation ceremony until all columns on the checklist are checked off.

  • To protect student privacy, the checklist is published with student numbers rather than names. You can find your student number on your most recent report card. In ParentVUE or StudentVUE, the student number appears under the student’s portrait in the top left corner.
  • A check mark means that your requirements for that column are complete.
